2009 Alliance Wakeskate Superlatives
Rookie of the Year

Chris Kallas actually started making blips on the radar screen in the summer of 2008. The Aussie with more big spin variations than anyone turned up on Lake Jessamine and was quickly adopted by the likes of Brandon Thomas and Brian Grubb. So when he showed back up in 2009, after a winter of improving his skills behind his tinny Down Under, Chris was definitely poised to break out.
“I think riding at home and knowing he was gonna come back and ride with the boys really motivated him,” BT says. “He just came back real strong with techy tricks and consistency. Then he gets back here and can ride behind the boat and his wake-to-wake stuff has gotten super strong.”
The result has been web videos that drop jaws, impressive contest finishes, and a spot on the Hyperlite Catalyst Wakeskate team. And who knows what else he’ll learn this year, already back in Australia, living the endless summer.
