Winter Park, Florida – There will be more of an international flavor at the King of Wake Wakeboard World Cup in 2007, as Mexico will host its first ever Cup stop and Canada has been awarded a second event. World Sports & Marketing, the organizing body for series, announced the 2007 schedule today. Ten cities will host the King of Wake World Cup, which is recognized as the sport’s one true series for determining the world’s number one rider.

The King of Wake brings together the sport’s top events and series under one ultimate season-long points chase. Top events in 2007 that count toward the ultimate title in wakeboarding include the five stops on the Pro Wakeboard Tour, plus the Wake Games, the WWA National Championships and the WWA World Championships.

The final event of the series, the Pro Am Championships, will take place in Mexico. This is the first time a major wakeboarding event has taken place in that country. Canada will host two stops — the traditional Pro Tour stop in Kelowna, British Columbia, and the newest event to join the World Cup, the Canadian Invitational in Alberta.

The “Chase for the Crown” format will be back in 2007. The “Chase” involved bringing the top 10 riders into a playoff race for the crown midway through the season with only those riders then eligible for the crown. The format was enthusiastically accepted by athletes, fans and media as it made its debut in 2006.

Tino Santori won the King of Wake in 2006, capturing the title at the final stop in Marathon, Florida. Rusty Malinoski and Andrew Adkison finished second and third, respectively. All three should be in the hunt once again in 2007.
