About Miss Reef
Reef Co-Founders, Fernando and Santiago Aguerre, knew they had a great product with their super comfortable, high quality sandals, but they wanted to separate themselves from the other surf companies.
Inspired by the notoriously beautiful women of the beaches in South America, the brothers saw an opportunity to introduce the surf market to an exotic element that they called Miss Reef. Never revealing her identity, the brothers used the intrigue of Miss Reef to help convey the sensual side of the beach and surf lifestyle.
Reef is proud to release the second installment of a five-year series of Miss Reef Calendars shot entirely in South America. A remote island in Panama served as the second secret spot to capture Miss Reef in an exotic beach environment, and all for the sake of helping you keep track of time. The 2011 Miss Reef calendar will be available October 1st, 2010 at core retail shops and on www.reef.com/calendar.
The Miss Reef Calendar is an annual tradition that sets out to capture the essence of the Reef Brand; exotic beach locations, beautifully mysterious women and truly iconic imagery treasured by generations of surfers, young and old. Miss Reef has been a global icon in the surfing community for the past 25 years – a quick peak at the calendar will explain why.
The 2010 Miss Reef calendar, the first of this limited edition series, was photographed entirely in Northern Brazil. The second installment takes us to a remote archipelago of islands strung out along the Caribbean coast of Panama. Local Miss Reef’s from all over Panama will be the subjects of the calendar, along with the beautiful turquoise waters, pristine beaches and tropical settings of Panama. For the next 3 years, Reef will visit a new secret location in South America, bringing you the quintessential surfers timekeeper year after year.

The first advertisement involving Miss Reef in 1991 was rejected from the surfing magazines for the controversial content, but after some convincing, the ads finally ran. The surfers who read the magazines were instantly intrigued by the exotic and beautiful figure in the campaign. Since then, Miss Reef has become a global icon of the surfing community. She remains an integral component of Reef’s DNA, appearing in all facets of marketing, especially the highly coveted Miss Reef Calendar.
