2013 Rockett’s Big Air Recap

Despite the drizzly forecast, the fun, party atmosphere of Rockett’s Big Air wasn’t dampened. Riders threw their best big air tricks off massive double-ups from the AF Wake signature EPIC 23v wake boat, and spectators cheered loud, enjoyed live music, drank good beer, and ate great food under the shelter of the Conch Republic restaurant and the AF Wake tents.

Leo Cifers, General Manager of the Conch Republic, said Rockett’s Big Air was incredible. “The pros are amazing to watch,” said Cifers. “Many of our guests have never seen wakeboarding and have high praise for the event and the people involved. We increased our business for the second year by hosting the event. Richmond is excited and everyone is looking forward to next year!”

Demo rides from 8 yr. old Jr. Boys Pro Fynn Bullock and BroStock champ Adam Fields closed out the competition. This year’s winners were: Brett Burkhart won Best Trick after sticking a huge Whirlybird and Toeside 540, Chris Bittinger won Big Air with a massive S-Bend and Air Raley, and Bry Long won Best Crash for his backside edge-catching effort on a Backside 180.

“I enjoy bringing these events to this region and watching everyone get pumped on wakeboarding,” said Adam Fields, owner of AF Wake. “Big thanks to the Conch Republic Rockett’s for hosting, to the event sponsors: The Boat Lift Store, Inc., EPIC Boats / Poplar Pointe Marine, Get Wired VA, Ski Center, Jim Beam, Liquid Force, Smith Optics, Ollie Photography, Alliance Wakeboard magazine, and to the fans and friends for helping the AF Wake brand grow!”

The 2013 AF Wake Series continues at Lake Gaston, North Carolina.  The next events include: The Big Air Fair June 22 from 1-4 p.m. at South Shore Realty at Eaton’s Ferry Bridge, Rock the Creek Aug. 3 all day at the AF Wake School in Lizard Creek (all riders welcome to participate), and Battle of the Lakes Sept. 23 all day at the AF Wake School in Lizard Creek. For more information on these events call Adam at 252-536-9063 or visit www.afwake.com.

AF Wake is the Mid-Atlantic’s most established wakeboarding school. Our coaches instruct students from all over the world at Lake Gaston. We enjoy all aspects of coaching from motivating students to learn how to get up on a wakeboard to teaching them how to learn big and technical tricks for their next competition. You’ll be on your way to the podium in no time!
