john d, chances are he’s not sitting on a black 10 dollar tube from k-mart. most tubes these days are big enough to take a nap on while cruising at “25mph”. additionally, i doubt the driver is trying to throw the guy off the tube. judging by the rest of the water in the photo it doesn’t look like the lake is exactly choppy. i think a shutter speed and a little cropping in photoshop can easily accommodate for the vibration and framing up a photo. as far as splash is concerned there seems to be a lot more near the guy standing in the water than the guy in the tube. although water housing is probably recommended for both situations.

never the less i agree that the end product should be the main component for judging. but i’ve seen enough shots from the tube of a lake barely unrecognizable from any other.

Captain cosmo, im going to have to disagree with you about sitting on a tube taking pictures as it is much harder than many think. Moving at 25mph trying to frame the picture while sitting however on the tube is not easy as you u may think. You have to deal with constant splashing and vibration while controlling the camera in a housing. Standing in water next to a rail imo is easier as your not moving. Also im not sure how you can say sitting on a tube is as easy or easier than sitting in a boat.

But i feel the difficulty of taking the photo shouldn’t be accounted for whos is better. What should matter is the end product, the photograph, and how well of a photograph it is.

nick b, thats some interesting insight. i think sitting on the tube and looking back is probably the easiest way to get a photo. might as well have been riding in the boat.

I had to go with the boat shot and a lot had to do with the photography. I think it’s just so much easier to get in the right position and really get an awesome shot when winching and I don’t think the angle used is all that great. Both are sick though!
