The 2008 Western Collegiate Wakeboard Regionals was the first event of its kind hosted by the Chico State Wake Team. A ton of work was put in by countless individuals for months leading up to the event hosted at Northern California's only private wakeboard lake, Villa Lagos. This event was the proving grounds for collegiate wake teams in the western region to show they had the skill needed to carry them on to Nationals. The 2008 WCWR was host to over 90 riders from eight schools in three different states. A big improvement over last years two team roster. 2008 proved to be one for the record books as we had unbelievable weather, great riding, and that unmistakable college atmosphere. Festivities that included an After party hosted by Redbull and The Graduate in Chico, and the first ever Mustache-off sponsored by Santa Cruz Surfing Club only added to the insane riding and sliding that was thrown down all weekend in Chico. In the end it was Sacramento State taking the title for the second year in a row with Chico State, and Central Washington University rounding out the top three teams that will be headed to Nationals next spring.  A big thanks to all the other teams and riders that made this event possible as well as our sponsors, Redbull, Teva, Santa Cruz Surfing Club Apparel Co., Hyperlite, Nor Cal Boardsports, Alliance Wake, Restored Clothing Co., Echelon Clothing, Villa Lagos, and a very special thank you to Alan Hutchek, without whom this event would have been sunk. This is only the first of many more big moves to come from the Chico State Wake Team, See you all next year!
