2010 LOS ANGELES BOAT SHOW OPTS FOR FOUR-DAY FORMAT

ORANGE, CA:    California’s senior boat show, the 54th Annual Los Angeles Boat Show produced by the Southern California Marine Association, will offer a new four-day event format in 2010.  The boat show, held at the Los Angeles Convention Center adjacent to the new Downtown Live complex and Staples Center, will open on Thursday, February 18 and run through Sunday, the 21st.

“We wanted to do what is best for our member/exhibitors and the boating public,” commented SCMA Executive Director Dave Geoffroy.  “It is incumbent upon us as a member-owned trade association to come up with the right show, at the right time.  Based upon input from members, exhibitors and other industry leaders, it became evident that creating a four-day format was simply the right thing to do for 2010 given the economic challenges we all face.  Because of the more compact date interval, we expect crowd density will significantly increase which always raises the energy level inside the convention hall, and that’s a good thing.  We anticipate that our overall attendance will still be about the same within the shortened four-day time frame.  L.A. is shaping up as another outstanding boat show and a great way to kick-off the new boating season.”

In addition to the new four-day format, SCMA has also decided to reduce the admission charge for adults to only $10.00, a nearly 20% reduction from last year.  As always, children 12 and under are free.  Boat show hours have also been extended slightly for 2010 with opening on Thursday and Friday at 12 noon and closing at 9:00pm.  Saturday show hours are 10:00am to 9:00pm and Sunday is
10:00am to 6:00pm.

“We’re very optimistic about the prospects of having an excellent 2010 L.A. Boat Show,” said Geoffroy.  “Over the past 53 years this show has been a tradition enjoyed by nearly four-million boaters.  Every indication points to better times ahead for the boating industry.  People still very much value their quality recreation time and the opportunity to be with family and friends on the water.  That’s something that never changes.”

The Automobile Club of Southern California is again the official watercraft insurance provider and proud title sponsor of 2010 SCMA boat shows.  For additional information, please log on to:  www.losangelesboatshow.com.
