CARLSBAD, Calif.—A controversial Encinitas, CA billboard is being taken down tomorrow morning after only a few complaints.

Upon receiving feedback from a few local citizens about SPY’s new Hwy 101 billboard—that has been widely enjoyed and celebrated by the community—the advertising space’s management company has decided to remove it permanently.

The San Diego based eyewear brand, SPY, has engineered a revolutionary new lens technology—the Happy Lens™—and the billboard is the first nod toward the product’s launch in February 2013. Patch.com posted a blog about the creative billboard this past Tuesday, and it featured a voter’s poll where the results heavily supported the message—69% for, 19% against, 10% indifferent. Despite the billboard’s positive reception, an underwhelming minority made enough noise that the management company decided this afternoon to remove it first thing Thursday morning.

The “Happy” billboard is scheduled for removal between 5 a.m. and 6 a.m. on September 6. Locals are expected to be on hand that same morning, during the rush hour commute from 7:30–9 a.m., to express their support of the billboard message and demand it be reinstated.
