The 2012 Points Chase has officially begun. 13 parks across the country are hosting a five-week series to qualify riders for the National Points Championship. The Points Chase has six different divisions (Wakeboard: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced & Pro & Wakeskate: Amateur and Pro) for riders of all skill levels to help encourage the growth of cable wakeboarding. Riders range from first year learners all the way up to 3-Time WWA Wake Park World Series Champion Tom Fooshee.

Riders will accumulate points in each of the local events or by competing at another participating park across the country. Their final total will be figured by dropping their worst outing and taking their top four scores. This will also allow a rider to miss a week and still be competitive. The top five riders in each division will qualify for the National Championship, but only the top three riders in each division will accumulate points for their team total.

This year the National Championship will take place at the newest park in the country, BSR Cable Park in Waco, Texas October 4th-7th. While BSR Cable Park is a brand new facility, they are no stranger to hosting industry events. This year Barefoot Ski Ranch (BSR) will be hosting the Barefoot Nationals and World Competition earlier in the summer. BSR Pro Shop Manager Ashley Parsons stated “BSR can’t express how excited we are to see our dream come to reality and it be chosen to host the points chase championship. It’s an honor and we want to make it an unforgettable experience for all! We can’t wait for it to get here!” While the location of the championships rotates each year we are excited to host the event within driving distance (under 2 1Ž2 hours) from four other parks. Tournament Creator Blake Hess feels, “The new site should be ideal for this year’s event! A beautiful new facility & restaurant on site, shade, great structures and a crew that is truly excited to host the best championship ever. What more could we ask for?” For pictures of the park please check BSR out at http://www.facebook.com/BSRcablepark

There will be a prize purse of $10,000 for the event. $2500 of that will go towards the pro division for the traditional event, $7500 will go towards the structure only event that pro riders will not need to qualify for. The structure only event will be designed to encourage two tower parks as well as some of the biggest names in the industry to come compete. It now makes sense for pro riders to compete in the weekly series and help their team. That way they can maximize their chance of taking home more prize money by competing in both events! The entire event will be sanctioned by the WWA, and the structure only event will be part of the new WWA Global Ranking system. Last but not least organizers are trying to add a fun wakeboarder cable barefoot tournament similar to the legendary event “Feet on Fire.” It only makes sense since BSR stands for Barefoot Ski Ranch!
