The Malibu Boats Tokyo Pro Presented by Rockstar Set for August 21-23

Lake Alfred, Fla. (August 6, 2015) – The second round of the Malibu Evolution Pro Series will take place in Tokyo, Japan as the Malibu Boats Tokyo Pro Presented by Rockstar is ready to begin on Friday, August 21. This unique event is a favorite among the fans and riders as it takes place in the middle of one of the world most recognized cities. The Wakeboard World Series best riders will make the transpacific journey to compete for more than $50,000.

“Returning to one of my favorite countries, Japan, after a few years off and with an event of this magnitude is such a great feeling for me,” said WWA President Shannon Starling.  “Joining the Malibu Evolution Series with my friends at The Japan Wakeboard Association, one of the original affiliate countries of the WWA, brings together our long history with the future of our sport with a event like the WWA Malibu Tokyo Pro.”

This elite competition will feature the best riders in the world competing on the best wake as they are towed behind the Malibu Wakesetter 22 MXZ in Tokyo Bay.

“Malibu has done a great job with the Evolution Pro Series,” said Malibu Pro Team rider Phil Soven. “Events like the Malibu Tokyo Pro give us a chance to perform at our best, in front of large enthusiastic crowds, right in the heart of Tokyo. We know that the competition is going to be fierce and that drives us to raise the bar.”

The Wakeboard World Series is returning to Japan after a hiatus, but the enthusiasm for the sport is still strong in the land of the rising sun, which has a long and storied history with wakeboarding.  The event at Odiaba is popular with the riders as they get to experience Japanese culture as well as compete in front of amazing crowds.

“The Tokyo Pro will be innovative in every way for both the athletes and the fans,” says Malibu CEO Jack Springer. “Our goal in creating these premium, high class events is to showcase the athletes at great venues to help propel the sport to ever higher levels and giving the riders a chance to perform in the heart of Tokyo in front of thousands of people is a perfect venue to accomplish that.”

The Tokyo Pro will set the stage for the final Malibu Evolution Pro Series event scheduled for Houston in October.
