Collegiate Wake Series Championships April 7th -9th

It is finally here! The event all the collegiate wakeboard teams have been training and riding so hard for. The top teams in the country, who spent the fall qualifying, are Long Beach bound for a great weekend on the beach and hanging out at the world famous wakeboarding venue Marine Stadium.

The teams are in the hunt for who will be considered the best team in the nation. Last year, and returning this year, is the University of Texas Longhorns. They took home the first title beating out a very good UC Chico State in their hometown of Austin Texas. This year Chico is back and wanting vengeance. They returned almost every rider and are now in their home state.

The University of South Florida is ready to upset this party. Derek Dyer and Dan Olson have been riding very well and have their team focused and ready to show what they have.

BuyWake.com and Slingshot have teamed together to show how much they believe in collegiate wakeboarding and are offering some huge prizes for the winning team.  “Chuck Morrow and Greg Kish have always been very supportive of what we have going on here and are excited to help push it to the next level,” said Rob Mendieta, the president of Empire Wake. “They both have amazing companies and staff helping us every event get prizes in these riders hands and offering support.”

There is a fun line up at the event during the weekend. Outside of some great wakeboarding from the collegiate teams, we have lot of other activities going on. Check out the line up:

Ricky Gonzales coming out to meet, greet and thrill the crowd with his riding. He will be representing Phalanx Wake, a new wakeboard company he and Troy Flick have started.

The crew from TSO Studios including the man Sal Masekela will be out setting up and showing off their new wakeboarding app. Sal will actually be announcing on Saturday for the finals.

Gibbons Slacklines will also be at the event set up with athletes and their Slacklines for everyone to try.  This sport called Slacklining is the act of balancing along a narrow, flexible piece of webbing usually low to the ground.  It is flexible so you can do tricks while working on your core training.

The riding starts at 10pm each day and 4 teams per day competing head to head in a bracket format.

Saturday is the Semi finals and finals immediately followed by the awards for the Championship team.
