Wilmington NC-

It was the phrase of the day during the inaugural event of the Atlas Wake Tour season. As promised, the Cape Fear Classic event lived up to its name yet again.

New comer Richard Black (Novice), veteran Ryan Shelly (Beginner) and Emylee Wright, one of the fastest growing women riders in the region, took care of their respective divisions with style and grace. But the day was seized by the intermediate and open divisions.

Graham Knott overtook Benj Trogden for the intermediate win, throwing down a huge indy batwing, and tantrum to blind to take the top honors. While Stephen Pierce loaded his run with a toeside 7, sick batwing to blind and a crow mobe to take first place in the Open division.

“These two divisions are deep and extremely exciting to watch,” says event coordinator Rob Mendieta. “I really can’t believe the level of riding we are seeing in the first event of the season. All our riders are extremely talented and fun to watch.”

The sunshine and smooth water made for a perfect day for wakeboarding. Red Bull dj DJSK Jodi Kimble and announcer Robby McFarland kept the crowd entertained and pumped up throughout the day, until the pro division hit the water and stole the show. Corey Bradley, Jeff House, and Adam Fields left the crowd wanting more. Corey took top honors with a flawless run on the Cape Fear river, before heading off to the Pro Tour stop in Dallas, TX. This division left us all in sheer anticipation for stop number two of the tour.

It was a great day in Wilmington, NC with the Atlas Wake Series family and friends.

Next stop, the highly anticipated Myrtle Beach Grand Strand Wake Jam… Join us at the Boathouse Bar and Grille on June 13 2009 for tour stop #2 of the Atlas Wake Tour.

We’ll see you there.
