Team Billabong invaded Southern California this past week for the west coast premieres of the long awaited Out of the Pond film. Kevin Henshaw and Brian Grubb met up with Billabong team manager Chris Heffner on Tuesday and made their way down to Newport Beach for the first screening of the movie. This was the first time a wakeboard movie was part of the Newport Beach Festival. With a mix of industry reps and the general public in attendance, Brian Grubb, Danny Harf, Chad Sharpe, Erik Ruck, Kevin Henshaw, and Shawn Watson took to the big screen. The movie was followed by a question and answer session with Heff, Henny, and Grubb. When asked to tell a memorable story from one of the trips, the boys educated everyone in attendance about cock fights in the Phillipines. I learned that it really pays off to bet on the stronger, bigger cocks. The smaller cocks are usually weaker and end up getting eaten after they are killed.
The next stop on the premiere tour was San Diego for the Wakesports Unlimited screening. The crew at Wakesports was able to partner up with the Wavehouse for the event which was held on the sands of Mission Beach. Everyone in attendance was able to watch Grubb and crew shred the wave for a couple of hours before the movie played. As the sun set, the crowd on the beach grew larger.  The movie ended with a strong response from the audience and everyone was rewarded with giveaways from Wakesports and Billabong.
It is safe to say that Billabong has changed the way people will thank about what is possible on a wakeboard. From tour busses to soccer fields, the video was filled with footage never before seen in wakeboarding. I think it is time for everyone to jump out of the pond and join team Billabong in pushing the progression movement in wakeboarding.
