Huge Grand Opening Festivities Planned June 4-5
For Houston’s Only Full-Scale Cable Wakeboarding Park

(Houston, TX) — It’s the weekend area wakeboarders have been eagerly
awaiting — the official Grand Opening of Wake Nation Houston, the
city’s only full-scale cable wakeboarding park near Pearland, south of
the Sam Houston Parkway on the 288 Freeway.

Grand Opening Weekend is June 4-5. (The cable wakeboarding park opened
May 7 on a limited basis for sneak-peek preview days.)

The Grand Opening weekend will include two days of live music, free
giveaways, free food, professional wakeboarding exhibitions and non-
stop activities. And, Sunday, June 5, is the date for a special Liquid
Force “Free For All” event. Liquid Force, the biggest name in
wakeboards, vests, clothing and accessories, will provide riders with
free ride passes and free rental use of its latest wakeboarding
equipment during the event. This exclusive free ride time runs from
noon until 5 p.m. on Sunday.

Each Free For All participant will have the opportunity to demo all of
the new 2011 Liquid Force wakeboarding gear, and several Liquid Force
professional wakeboard team riders will be on hand for wakeboarding
and wakeskating demonstrations, to give pointers and riding tips, and
sign autographs.

“The Free For All event is a great opportunity for the public to come
out to Wake Nation Houston, learn to ride, meet the top professionals
in the sport, and get tons of giveaways…all for free,” said Wake
Nation co-owner Peter Kennedy. “If you don’t have a board — no
worries. We will have new Liquid Force demo boards and vests available
for you to try that day!”
Among the professionals on hand will be Texas’ own Tom Fooshee, the
reigning Wake Park World Series champion and Alliance Wakeboard
magazine’s 2010 Rider of the Year. Also at the event will be two top
professionals from Florida – Aaron Reed and Ben Greenwood – plus
numerous other wakeboard and wakeskate professionals.

The new Wake Nation Houston features five 35’ high steel towers
carrying a unique overhead cable system enabling riders to wakeboard,
wakeskate, water ski and kneeboard without a boat around a 12-acre
lake. Six riders can be on the water at the same time, being pulled
around the lake at speeds of 18-20 miles per hour.

For experienced riders, the lake is outfitted with custom-built jumps,
grind rails and sliders. In addition to the main lake, there is also a
separate area called the Practice Pond featuring an “easy start” ride
system. This area is designed to give kids and wakeboarding beginners
a place to learn to ride a wakeboard at a slower speed than on the
main lake. All riders must be at least 5 years of age and are required
to wear a Coast Guard Approved (CGA) life vest and a helmet, all of
which can be rented at Wake Nation.

A unique feature of Wake Nation Houston is the overhead cable that
moves around the lake in a clockwise direction — currently the only
clockwise cable system in Texas and only the second of its kind in the
USA.  Clockwise cables are ideal for left-foot-forward riders, which
is how the majority of today’s wakeboarders ride.

The Wake Nation Houston complex has a full pro shop, equipment rental
shop, concessions’ area, huge outdoor observation deck offering a
panoramic view of the entire lake area and numerous other services and
amenities.

Wake Nation Houston is open daily through October. Operating hours are
10 a.m. until 8 p.m. daily except on Mondays when the park opens at
noon.

Wake Nation Houston is a “pay-as-you-play” facility. Parking and
admission to the cable wakeboarding complex are FREE, including access
to the outdoor observation deck. Riders pay only for their “water
time,” at $25 for two hours, $30 for four hours and $35 for an all-day
pass. Wake Nation also offers lessons, special group rates and several
season pass options. Currently, there are only 10 full-scale cable
wakeboarding parks in the U.S.A.

Wake Nation Houston is the second cable wakeboard complex operating
under the Wake Nation brand. Wake Nation’s first cable wakeboard
complex, Wake Nation Cincinnati, opened in May, 2009 to rave reviews
from the local community as well as professional wakeboarders
worldwide. The popular venue has already hosted two nationally
sanctioned tournaments, won several “Best Of” awards and last year set
an officially sanctioned Guinness World Record for longest distance
traveled on a wakeboard in a 24-hour period.
