Liquid Force Summer Series Round 4 wrap up

Penny proved to have fickle and unpredictable weather once again, with a cold wind and pouring rain Saturday, compared to a wet but humid and warm Sunday.

Day one kicked off with the amateur Triple 1 contest first thing in the morning on the ten-carrier (front) lake, with Bli Bli grom Chad Dumble shining on the lake to take out the top spot.

It was straight onto the Double Up 2.GO! competition to keep the day going, with the crowd managing to watch on through the rain and wind.

Clear standout and Penny super grom Aaron Gunn absolutely schooling the quarter pipe with enormous air took out the top spot in the pro men division, against the likes of James Windsor and Daniel Grant.

Don Baker proved again why he deserves the top spot in the 2.0, winning it at Boardstock in the open men and again over the weekend. Don also took out first in the open men rail jam.

Sam Golledge is an absolute force to be reckoned with in the 17 girls. Sam once again earned her self first position in the 2.0 contest over the weekend and breezed through the whole season undefeated in the rail jam events, taking another first home.

The Liquid Force Rail Jam kicked off at 3pm and the judges were huddled together out in the rain, sticking it out to watch the riders bring their style to the ten-carrier lake.

A new division was introduced over the weekend – the kids club division. Cables Wake Park Penrith has been running specialised kids sessions for ages 6-14 some mornings at the park. The kids club offers coaching and fun for all kids. This weekend the kids club got to participate in their first rail jam and it was a brilliant success with a stack of entries and some keen riding from participants. Sherydan McPherson Bemnar took out the girls division of kids club and Ethan Jordan won the boys division.

Busty Dunn was a clear winner in the 17 boys division. The 17 boys is one of the most competitive divisions in the series, with plenty of entries and extreme riding. Busty also stuck it to the pro men in the Jet pilot King of the Kicker, taking out first with a stylish heel back 9. This 15-year-old world champ will no doubt be top of the pro pack in the next couple of years over all aspects of competition.

Daniel Grant took the double of pro skate and pro men rail jams, once again proving why he is top dog in both of these divisions – and smiling the whole way through as usual.

The pro women were stepping it up on the day and Courtney Angus took out first in an amazingly smooth ride – she was super stoked with her run.

The pro men Triple 1 event kicked off day two with James Windsor taking out the division. The world champ was happy with his run on the day and he blitzed his set.

The event that had everyone talking was next to come. The O’Neill Wake the Line Qualifier – for the first time held outside of Europe and America.
With the riders filtered down to a top five, (which was a hard and long deliberated decision) Chris O’Shea, Mitch Langfield, Aaron Gunn, James Windsor and Oli Derome were to battle it out for a ticket to Germany.

Oli unfortunately crashed out in both of his runs on double half cab rolls and James just couldn’t do enough to podium. Leaving Chris to have two solid runs to come in third, Mitch in second and Aaron Gunn (possible quarter pipe king) took out first spot in amazing style.

Day two wrapped up with the Jetpilot King of the Kicker competition on the six-carrier lake. The Cairns kicker was moved into the vacant wave kicker spot on the lake, ready for some serious competition.

Local shredder Justin Eaton took out the under 13 boys comp with Sam Golledge taking out the 17 girls.

Daniel Grant got tricky on his wake skate having the top three hits to take out top spot in pro wake skate and Sophie Hogben took out first in the pro women KOK.

It’s almost time to get the steamers out again for the winter, but not quite yet. The warm weather promises to stick around at least until the next rail jam on April 6th & 7th at Cables Wake Park Penrith. The last round will be held on the six-carrier lake.
