Louisiana Collegiate Wake Tour hits the water for spring break.

College wakeboard athletes from the region will compete at the third tour stop in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach, AL.

On March 19th, college students from across the South will be headed to Gulf Shores Orange Beach, AL for a break from their books and tests to enjoy Spring Break 2016. This year wakeboard athletes are also headed to town on their third tour stop of the season to be hosted at Flora-Bama Ole River Bar!

Seven college wakeboard teams and over sixty riders will be battling it out on the Old River between Ono Island in Orange Beach, AL and Perdidio Key, FL to put their team in the best position possible to win the LCWT before they head to the finals in Monroe, LA on April 23rd. The LCWT is a collegiate wakeboard tour that includes 4 stops over the course of the academic year and also counts as a qualifier for the USA Wakeboard Collegiate National Championships that are held in September 2016. LSU jumped out to be an early leader after the first two events that were held last fall in Baton Rouge, LA and in Lafayette, LA. LSU is leading with ULM in second. Mississippi State, ULL, and Ole Miss round out the top five teams on the tour closely following ULM and LSU. With finals on ULM’s campus, they hold a good chance to close that gap. This is the second time the LCWT has ventured outside of the state of Louisiana. In 2013, Yazoo City, Mississippi hosted the tour in what ended up being one of the biggest events in collegiate wakeboarding history with over 100 riders attending. The LCWT is looking forward to a similar outcome in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach next weekend. Riders will compete in six divisions ranging from beginner to outlaw. There will also be two other divisions competing, women’s and wakeskate. Riders are given two tournament passes behind the Supra Tow Boat provided by Abita Springs Outboards of Louisiana to throw down their 10 best tricks to get a gain point totals.

Riding will start at 9:30am. Spectators are invited free of charge and people are welcome to watch the event from the beach next to Flora-Bama Ole River Bar. The kitchen and bar will be open and the entire course can be viewed from their balcony. There will be pro exhibitions by Hyperlite riders Ben Albright and Taylor Renfro during the lunch break of the tournament. Awards will be announced immediately following the last division on the beach behind Flora-Bama Ole River Bar.

Sponsors include: Abita Springs Inboard of Abita Springs, LA, Gulf Shores & Orange Beach Sports Commission, Flora-Bama, Sunbum, Hyperlite Wakeboards, Slingshot Wakeboards, Red Bull, Hog Wild Beach & BBQ, B&L Marine of Monroe, LA, and Southbound Design of New Orleans
