GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN, May, 2010 – Placid Wake Park is excited to announce the upcoming opening of a unique venue that will draw national attention to West Michigan.  Placid Wake Park will be the first overhead cable wakeboarding park in Michigan when it opens on May 15.  Although there are hundreds of similar parks in Europe, Placid’s will be the newest of only a dozen such wakeparks in the United States.  There is nothing else like this in Michigan!

Cable wakeboarding is a rapidly growing sport because the innovative cable system allows wakeboard riders of all ages and experience levels to wakeboard without requiring a boat.  Eliminating the need for a boat dramatically reduces the cost of wakeboarding, thereby providing access to a sport that otherwise involves significant up-front investment in a boat and related accessories.

Placid will offer lessons from professional wakeboard riders on a daily basis.  Rental equipment from Liquid Force will be available for riders who do not have their own equipment. Also, other equipment and merchandise will be available for purchase at the on site pro shop co-hosted by Action Water Sports. In addition, food and beverages provided by Main Street Pub will be available on site.

Riders can purchase hourly cable passes which can be purchased in quantities for a discount.  Please visit www.placidwakepark.com to purchase clothing, cable & boat passes or to schedule an event, camp or hourly booking on the boat or cable.

Placid will be hosting several events and tournaments throughout the summer of its inaugural season.  Placid expects some of the world’s top riders to visit the park this year for an experience that is certain to inspire local riders.  Summit Marine will be manufacturing a one of a kind hydraulic slider for the cable lake.

In addition to the unique overhead cable system, Placid will offer wakeboarding and wake surfboarding behind a Mastercraft ski boat.  Placid also offers beach volleyball and numerous outdoor activities to ensure that there will be something for everyone in the family.

Half-day and full-day camps are available on Mondays and Tuesdays for clubs, parties, corporate events and other gatherings that will allow riders to receive both boat and cable lessons during the camps.

Hours of operation will be Monday & Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 9:00 p.m, Wednesday & Thursday from noon to 9 p.m. and Friday thru Sunday from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.  Placid Wake Park is located on Placid Lake at the intersection of 84th Avenue and Lake Michigan Drive in Allendale Township.
