Sean O'Brien and JD Webb

This past weekend the wakeboarding community in and around Orlando gathered at OWC for the Ride 4 Relief event. Sean O’Brien spent the last few weeks working his butt off to organize the fundraiser aimed at making a contribution to the relief efforts in Haiti and it more than paid off. All sorts of pros, bros, and Joe’s came out to mingle, ride, and take part in the good cause.

“I was stoked on the turnout,” said O’Brien a couple days after the event. “A lot of the guys I talked to were really pumped to be there and that the wakeboarding industry was coming together to do something good like this.”

So far O’Brien said just over $5,000 had been raised, but that much more could come from the online auction, which will launch next week. “The industry donated a lot of goods for the auction. I’ve got 18 boards, lots of other miscellaneous product, and even some framed prints from photographers Garrett Cortese and Jason Lee,” said O’Brien. Many of the boards and extra goodies are hand signed by the athletes, and a lot of the boards are straight from the riders’ personal collection, so buyers will get a board ridden by the pro whose name is on it (as well as the sponsor stickers). The auction will be set up through eBay and O’Brien hopes to have it online and running within a week.
