Authentic hand painted window to welcome you in.

The easiest way to know if someone is from California is when upon meeting them they brag about how good their Mexican food is. While I can’t personally attest to “how amazing” California Mexican food is, I can say that Taqueria Ameca is as authentic as it gets in Orlando. Located at the corner of Orange and Drennen (just south of downtown) in Orlando, it is about 15 minutes from OWC, which is one of the most recognizable cable parks out there.

From the moment you walk through the door and the salsa music hits you, you immediately feel like you are in an authentic taqueria and in for a flavorful feast. There is no formal menu when you walk in, but the best thing to get there are the tacos. They are only $1 each when you pay in cash, and trust me, it’s easily the best dollar you can spend in a day (way better than anything on those crappy $1 menus at fast food joints) Taqueria Ameca’s tacos are heaven in a small, freshly handmade tortilla.  Everything at Taqueria is handmade daily on site. From the hot, medium, and mild sauces, to pico, guacamole dip and even the tortillas. If you are looking for the highly processed salsa and guac dips then this place is not for you. If you are looking for the best and cheapest tacos in town then this is your spot. They serve Mexican soda, bottled Coca-Cola and even have many of your favorite man sodas so you can wash those tacos down. While Orlando (and any state that doesn’t border Mexico, for that matter) has always had a bad rap for not having really good, authentic Mexican food, now we’ve got you covered. Next time you find yourself in the City Beautiful and have a hankering for tacos, Taqueria Ameca is the place for you.
