In this edition of Throwback Thursday we head back to 1997 for the Wake Fest event at Sloan’s Lake in Denver, Colorado. Check out the runs from guys like Shaun Murray, Erik “Gator” Lutgert, and Chase Heavener with a Skurfer cameo from the Skurf Daddy himself, Tony Finn.

Crazy how far we’ve come in 17 years. Damn, I can’t believe its been that long! It’s good for the kids to see how guys like gator (especially gator) and chase killed it back in the day behind a ski boat. And Murray, I mean what can you say – this is right around the point where he is transitioning from virtually unknown to the best, most well rounded rider in the world. Ahh, the Golden Age of wakeboarding, and of my life…really enjoyed this one – thanks, Alliance!

I remember staying up until 2am to catch these comps on ESPN 8 (The Ocho) and then having to get up to go to school the next day.

    Great memories.

Did not realize Whirly 5s were going down in ’97. They are still a staple to this day in a contest run it seems!
