You saw the teams ranked 10 – 16 back in December.  Last week Arizona State WakeDevils were awarded Collegiate Wakeboard Team of the year. Now we bring you the break down of the rest of the top 16 teams in the country.

#9 Georgia College – Each year GCSU sneaks further up the rankings. They had a good showing in Atlanta this year and hopefully more riders will join the team in 2012.

#8  Long Beach State – Danni Petraitis took over this team this year and has a major turn around. The team was close to being ban from the 2011 season after an unfortunate incident at the 2011 Collegiate Wake Championships in Long Beach.  However with Danni taking over the team is on point and heading in the right direction.

#7  Florida – In 2010 they were number 1, but didn’t attend the Championships dropping them lower. They had a strong showing in Atlanta, and a smaller one in Tampa, but still giving them 2 events. Josh Bank lead his team into the top 10 by placing 2nd at both stops in the Open Division while Kevin Havemeir podiumed twice in the Advanced.

#6 North Texas – Big jump for Justin Troth and company.  This team gained some huge support from CWB this year and helped boost them to number 6. Justin has his team organized and competing well.  We are excited to see where this team goes in 2012. We expect a strong finish at the Collegiate Wake Championships in Las Vegas.

#5 Sac State – This team is one of the most organized thanks to team leaders Jen Barth and Drew Glickman. They are a model team for the rest of the country and sit number 4 thanks to the help from the Aquatic Center and coach Chad

#4 Texas A&M – This was another big turn around. They have been a solid top 10 team for the past few years, but with the new staff in charge, they have their act together and ready to be the top team in loaded Texas.

#3 University of South Florida – They are the defending champs of college wakeboarding and currently sit number 3. That is not to say this team isn’t stacked and looking to repeat.  They were only able to make it to the Tampa stop but showed why they are going to be strong.  Can you say repeat?

#2 Chico St – For 2 years this team has been haunted by this number. They lost to Texas in the finals in 2010, then to South Florida in 2011. This could be their year. After cleaning house in their own backyard I haven’t seen this team look so strong. We know they want the title before graduation.  Might want to put your money on these guys for the Championships.

And the number 1 team in the nation is…

#1 Arizona State University – Huge finish in Chico and another in Tampa. This team knows how to put it together. Lead by Ryan Platt and R.J Pabon they are getting acknowledged all over the place. These guys are ready to stay a while in Vegas and finish their epic run in 2011.
