TSR Hosts Pre-Season Showdown

To celebrate the ninth season of the Texas Ski Ranch’s Thursday Night Summer Showdown Series, TSR hosted a preseason event to kick everything off! The 2011 Cablewakeboard.com National Points Chase officially begins next week, but local riders came out to join in the preseason celebrations.

TSR won the team title at last year’s championship event, but will be up for a challenge to claim this year’s win.  The 2011 National Points Chase Championship will be hosted in Tampa this year, which means all four Florida parks will have the opportunity to ride and familiarize themselves with the obstacles and the opposite direction cable system.

TSR had over 60 riders compete in the preseason showdown, just five riders short of last year’s largest event! The excitement level continues to grow as more parks become involved each year. This year ten parks will host similar summer series and qualify riders for the National Points Chase Championship. While the riders from TSR are competing against each other each week, they all realize they are part of the team trying to qualify. That outlook creates just the right blend of trash talking and support that makes the TSR showdowns the most successful Cable wakeboard and wakeskate series in the world.

Taylor Irby was this week’s outstanding rider winning both the newly added amateur wakeskate and intermediate wakeboard division. Taylor competed last year in the beginner division and learned more during the offseason than any other athlete in the field. Taylor rode so well that he could have competed with some of the advanced riders.

The rest of the field all competed well, many in their first event since last year’s series. No surprise that Tom Fooshee won the pro division, even though many of the other riders could win at almost any other park across the country. The atmosphere and camaraderie at TSR creates such a great environment that Texas continues to be a hotbed for churning out great cable riders. Look for this to accelerate even more with the addition of three new Texas Parks opening this year! Two of which are part of the National Points Chase.

TSR also added a special preseason structure best-hit division for Gabe Lucas. The winner, Cody Johnson, took home a Kicker Audio home sound system. Cody designed and built the new rail, which opened Jan 1, and took home the win against a competitive field of 18 riders. The event was judged by three of the most renowned slider masters, Gabe Lucas, Clay Fletcher and Keith Holley.

TSR would like to thank all of the riders and spectators that came out for the event! We would also like to give a special shout out to all of our sponsors: MasterCraft, Liquid Force, Rip Curl & Spy. Be sure to make it out to TSR or your local cable park to compete or watch the summer events over the next 5 weeks! TSR Showdowns will be every Thursday night through July 14th.
