now all i need is a iphone, just one criticism from what I saw: you can't do a half cab off the wake, its a switch 180!
April 23, 2011
Exactly purist. When will wakeboarders and wakeskaters realize the difference between fakie and switch and realize off the wake it is literally impossible to cab. As well as the difference between a cork and a rodeo.
April 24, 2011
is that on droid?
April 24, 2011
hi exactly and hi purist,
can you guys explain? that is, the difference between switch and fakie, cork and rodeo, switch 180 and half cab ?
thanks

It comes from skateboarding. Imagine if you are riding a skateboard, you are rolling your regular way to do an ollie. Now turn yourself completely around, board and all. Now you are going the same way but you are standing on the nose of the board with your opposite foot in front. This is fakie, you are popping off the nose of the board. (It's a backwards nollie). Switch is when your stance is just switched around but you are still popping off the back of the board. You can't fakie on a wakeboard because you can't move or pop off the front of the board. Unless you are on a rail, and even that's suspect.
Now with a cork and rodeo. A Cork goes under while a rodeo goes over. So if you were doing a back flip with a backside 180 and were coming in on your heels it would be a backside rodeo 5 (tantrum to blind). But if you were coming in on your toes it would be a backside cork 5 ( Toeside roll to blind). This doesn't work in wakeboarding no matter what they say, mainly because of the handle. There are too many variations of the same trick with the handle. Ex. A toeside off axis backside 5 would be a backside cork 5 but so would a toeside roll to blind.
A half cab in a fakie 180. Popping off the nose of the board. You can't do a half cab in wakeboarding because you are positioned popping off the center already. You can only ride switch. It is impossible to even ride in the fakie position when you are strapped in.

Good thing this is alliancewake.com and not allianceskate.com. We are talking about wakeboarding right? Not skating.
April 25, 2011
Yeah but all the terminology for wakeboarding comes from skateboarding. At least to a certain extent. At least with the way a board is ridden. It's better to know the terminology. The same goes with rails and the difference between what makes something a boardslide compared to a lip slide. And frontside to backside. You can say we are talking about skateboarding but wakeboarding came from a mix of all the other board sports. And it makes it easier to explain to your friends what you landed if you know exactly what you landed.
