IBIZA | It’s a Vibe…with Shawn Watson & Luca Kidd
To quote Two Chains, “It’s a vibe, it’s a vibe, it’s a vibe”…well, you get the idea! And that’s just what Shawn Watson and Luca Kidd found in the Mediterranean Sea. A solid vibe to get some riding done in a beautiful place like Ibiza and Mallorca. With a loaded G23 and plenty of stoke to go around, their stay was nothing short of epic. Check out the recap from their trip and then read up on it in the newest issue of Alliance!

Watson, you were one of the best to do ever do it, however, that time in the early to mid 2000's has passed. Re-brand yourself as a brand ambassador, and now apparently assistant team manager, rather than a professional wakeboarder because it is disingenuous to the sport to imply you put your body on the line to ride at the highest level doing tantrums to blind you've done a million times and wrapped 360's.
Also, please stop putting wakesurfing footage into wakeboard videos. There is a wakesurf tab above for those seeking wakesurf content.
Don't degrade a wakeboard video depicting a legitimate action sport with a hobby.
Finally, b-roll lifestyle shots are cool when done properly to help us fans learn about the riders. That being said, buttchug is right that you have failed when the b-roll and surf shots outweigh legitimate wakeboard footage.

Disingenuous as in taking an authority position over someone's existence while remaining anonymous.
Solid…

Corey, you were a heck of a rider as well! It appears you take offense to my comment because you have interpreted it in a hateful way toward Shawn Watson. My comments are not intended to be hateful or demeaning toward him. To the contrary, I specifically acknowledged above he was "one of the best to do ever do it," which is more than most of us can say about anything we ever did.
What I meant above is that life evolves, the sport evolves, and no one in board sports can do it forever at a professional level. That's just the reality of it, whether we like it or not. I think even Shawn would acknowledge he does not ride at the level he once did, nor at the level of top professionals in the sport today. It is not a bad thing to acknowledge you are not the same as you were 15 years ago. Instead, it is genuine and honest about the place your at in your career.
And speaking of career, I did not say he should never pick up a wakeboard again, that he should stop riding a wakeboard, that he should leave the industry, etc. To the contrary, I specifically stated he should stay in the industry and re-brand what he does in line with a brand ambassador who is there to interest people in the sport rather than shape its progression (my definition of a professional wakeboarder rather than simply receiving monetary compensation from a wakeboard & boat company).
As for being anonymous, in order to post this comment you have my email since you work at alliance. Email me and I'll give you my number. Call me up if you want to discuss it further. Although I doubt Shawn Watson has read this post, feel free to pass along my contact info to him if he wants to chew my ass, I'll certainly listen. Nothing wrong with the free flow of ideas, thanks for sharing yours.
