Good to see footage of Watson actually wakeboarding again.

Stock Watson moves. But honestly, show me someone of any age who executes those "stock" moves better. Dude is on the backside of his 30s and still shredding and collecting checks. He must be doing something right…including riding fairly regularly. Hard to believe you come that correct if you're not still putting in some time on the water. He's always had timeless style. Still got it.
October 18, 2017
Thats great and all, but couldnt those checks be going towards some up and comer who is willing to push the sport? This guy is pretty much a never was, not even a has been
October 18, 2017
yeah, you've done so much for the sport..truly a never was with the exception of an online jerkoff. Meh, ya gotta be something i guess.

You saw the "Numb" video, right? Seems like the kids are making progress. Truth is its a business and Watson has long had some of the better selling lines in the business. Sadly, its a dying industry – especially for boat strappers. Without people who can sell, there's not going to be anything to progress. It takes a village to make it work. If anything it would be nice to see some of Watson's peers who gave their youth to the sport being able to continue making a living in the industry. If there should be a redistribution of wealth, it should be there IMO. A 16 year old kid with a bag of tricks is not equivalent to someone like Erik Ruck. If anyone should be getting a piece of Watson's pie, it's that dude. Just saying. I'll shut up and go back to work now.
October 19, 2017
The fuck are you talking about. Ruck has his place in the sport, they work for different companies. Dying industry? Wakeboarding as an industry will always struggle but it will never die. Boat strapping will die when the human race dies, it´s here to stay. People like Watson are recognized because they were among the first to do it well. As was already mentioned, he must be doing something right (on the business side). Nobody wants to buy something off a teenager who can do a load of tricks but has no business or life experience. Let me talk to Zane or Murray any day.

A never was? His part in Relentless is one of the best there is. He won a few pro tour stops as well. He may not be at the top of the sport but there was a time when he was on the podium and had a killer video part out. That is very hard to do.

You've got to give the guys some respect who paved the way for those "up and comers". Especially if they are still selling Pro Models.
October 18, 2017
Can someone teach this guy some new tricks? Watch any Watson video since 1999 and you’ll see the same tricks.
October 20, 2017
I can guarantee you that he was not doing wrapped backside spins in his part in Shaft.
October 18, 2017
Always had the effortless style and still killin it! Always been a fan.

So dreamy…

Watson is a pioneer, he did his part in pushing the sport during his peek. Comparing Watson to how Cory rides in NUMB isn't possible, its comparing apples to oranges. The new era has access to bigger and badder wakes, stronger and lighter boards, not to mention the coaching from a handful pros from HIS TIME PERIOD.
On a serpate note this video has made to inform attributes of his board, not to show off his riding. If this was a Watson video part he would have approached it in a whole different direction.
buncha haters

Peak*…and comparing two people riding is quite literally comparing apples to apples…when was his last video part anyways?

Interesting how alliance posted a section about “Coasters” a while back but then continues to give exposure to guys like this who haven’t done anything new or interesting in about 10 years…
October 21, 2017
watson rips an all but spread the $ to the new wave, fuckin lots of people on the come up but have to work a full time job just to ride…smfh…
October 23, 2017
I think it’s time to throw in the towel. what influence can this guy possibly have on the sport now? No cool tricks, no videos, and really contributing nothing. Build a cable, teach kids, be an advocate for our sport.
October 25, 2017
I think his influence is that his board designs are still some of the best selling boards. LF sells a ton of the Watson Classics to new boaters and the pro models to boat riders. I know in my crew of 10-12, there are a couple of them on Watson hybrid/doses

Good for him. Sure, I'd like for him to go out and push himself a little, but hey. He's found his spot and he can still shred.

The Bernie Sanders crowd is out in full force today

Has anyone else noticed this is by far the most commented on video on this site in a long time? Not sure if its funny or sad. I'm going now to re-watch BPs video and to say something nice about it, because that dude is shredding. Not to take anything away from Watson – but all the comments and attention this silly little promo video has generated proves my original point. Dude sells because for one reason or another he's always drawn attention.

Watson – 1
The Rest of You – ZERO
October 25, 2017
Did anyone else notice how perfect literally every trick Watson did in this section was? How good everything looked? How properly everything was grabbed? Now before you read any further go back and watch the video of WMJ, Quinn, Blake, and Jeff Mckee sessioning that advertisement they called a rail at West Rock. Now watch how they ride their wakeboards, look at the control they have as they barely make a bs 270 out of a regular board slide, or a nose press that they didn't lock into till the last 10 feet, then come back and rewatch this.
Now lets rewind a bit and take a second to talk about Shawn Watson as a wakeboarder… The modern sport of wake boarding, cable parks and all was literally founded on Watsons back. (We can talk about Byerly in this group too but thats not really the case since Byerly is the one who made it possible for Watson to become who he became. And Byerly should be respected accordingly for that above Watson.) Watson literally carried this sport on his back with Danny Harf, Shane Bonifay and Parks into what it is today. Literally every current trick being done behind a boat, cable, winch, or sea doo is a legit replication of something Watson probably did in a LF video from 2003, yes Watson was making carving and butters look cool 15 years before these new riders acted like they invented it by narrowing their stances and wearing short shorts to stand out from the other 50 riders doing the exact same thing.
Who was in the mud with these dudes when they built the first pool gaps, winch spots, rails at cable parks, when they were literally building the groundwork for places like Valdosta and the Bishops place a decade before. And also were doing the current
The sad part is that probably 10 people own winches in North America, and they all comment right here. I wonder what someone who was just getting into this sport would think if they stopped over to check out a new product video (like beginners do, since they know nothing about wakeboarding) and then proceed to read this garbage above, like a middle school discussion board of ignorance… They would probably end up being wake surfers… Wait thats exactly what happened. Shit.
Yes I agree Watson could push it more but after you have already pushed a sport to the peak of it's height during a time when it was bigger than it's ever been you probably get pretty tired. The riders today are not influencing a sport, they are adding 180s to the decades of progression Watson has already put in. Especially when they act like their butter was delivered straight from Jesus.
