Wake Nation Cincinnati Opens May 1 With A New Practice Pond, New Lake Obstacle And A New Season Of Non-Stop Fun

(Cincinnati, OH) – Let the fun begin!…The award-winning Wake Nation Cincinnati watersports complex opens for the 2010 season Saturday, May 1 at 11 a.m.

Located in Fairfield’s Joyce Park, Wake Nation Cincinnati last year opened to rave reviews as Ohio’s only watersports park where riders can wakeboard, water ski, kneeboard, and wakeskate around a 10-acre lake without a boat! Rather, riders are pulled around the oval lake at speeds of 18-20 miles per hour by a circulating, overhead cable system that runs 35 feet above the water. When Wake Nation Cincinnati opened last year it was only the 7th cable wakeboarding park in the U.S.

New for 2010 is the addition of a second body of water, a smaller lake called “The Practice Pond” that features an “easy start” ride system, the first of its kind in the U.S. The Practice Pond is designed to give children ages five and up and beginners of all ages a place to learn to ride a wakeboard at a slower speed than on the main lake. The Practice Pond will have a starting dock on each end of the pond, creating an easy “up and back” system to facilitate more “launch” repetitions and generate a faster learning curve.

For experienced riders on the main lake, Wake Nation Cincinnati this season unveils a new, challenging 80’ long, 6’ tall obstacle, an A-frame monster wall jump, that will join six other fun obstacles on the water. Additional new obstacles will be placed on the lake during the summer.

Also new in 2010, Wake Nation Cincinnati for the first time is offering summer day camp sessions (weekly mini-camps) for kids ages 9 to 16 years old. Children will learn how to wakeboard and water ski in a fun, supportive environment from Wake Nation’s experienced, professional staff. To register for camps or to get more information, the public can call (513) 887-WAKE or email Wake Nation Cincinnati at camp@wakenation.com.

Numerous special events are planned for the upcoming season. Already announced is an entire weekend of activities June 25 & 26 when a team of wakeboarders will be setting a new world record for most distance traveled on a wakeboard within 24 hours. The world record attempt is officially sanctioned by Guinness World Records™, the ultimate authority on record-breaking achievement. Pledged proceeds from the world-record attempt will be donated to MedLend, a non-profit organization that provides medical missions to impoverished countries in an attempt to save and improve the lives of their citizens.

Other scheduled events this summer include Liquid Force’s  “Free For All Day” on June 6, a summer-long Weekly Grind Series competition, and the World Wakeboarding Association Wake Park Nationals Regional Qualifier on Aug. 15. Details for these events will be announced soon.

In last year’s inaugural season, Wake Nation Cincinnati received numerous awards, including three prestigious “Best Of” awards from Ohio Magazine, Cincinnati Magazine and Cincy Magazine.

Wake Nation Cincinnati will operate daily through October. Opening hours vary between 10 a.m. and noon, depending on the month. Closing time is 8 p.m. (Check website for details.)

At Wake Nation Cincinnati, both parking and admission are FREE. The park is a “pay as you play” facility with ride time starting at $25 for two hours. Rental equipment, private lessons, group discounts and birthday parties are available. Season Passes are now on sale for $550.
