Orlando, Fla. — For the first time since 2004, world titles for the sport of wakeboarding and wakeskating will be up for grabs in Orlando, Fla., as the ROCKSTAR WWA Wakeboard World Championships, presented by Supra returns to the Orlando Watersports Complex on August 27-30, 2009.

Nearly 200 wake athletes, representing several countries, including Australia, Japan, New Zealand, Korea, Columbia, Argentina, Sweden, France, Brazil, Mexico, England, Canada and the United States, will vie for world titles in 20 different divisions, separated by age and skill level.

Athletes compete by performing rail tricks and aerial stunts, while being towed on the water behind the official towboat of the ’09 Worlds, the Supra Launch 24V, at a speed of approximately 25mph. Tricks are scored by a panel of judges, with only the top-scoring athletes advancing in each round of the contest until a winner is determined in the finals.

Last year, the 2008 Worlds featured 16 divisions, with 13 titles going to the United States and one title each going to Australia, Canada and England.

In addition to the world titles, the 2009 Worlds serves as the final contest in the King of Wake and Queen of Wake series for the pro men and women’s divisions. The highest points-earner in each series will be awarded their respective crown, following the Worlds trophy presentation.
