Garrett Cortese, along with Alliance Wakeboard Magazine and The Liquid Playground, is pleased to announce “Within the Wake”, a photo exhibition showcasing some of Garrett’s work from his ten years within the wakeboarding industry. The gallery opens Thursday, August 25 at 7:30 PM at The Liquid Playground, a one-of-a-kind wake shop in San Jose, CA. Throughout this summer shop owner Austin Watts has hosted a handful of exhibits featuring work from some of the industry’s best photographers to much acclaim. However “Within the Wake” will be the first exhibit exclusive to one photographer. 2011 marks the tenth year Garrett has worked in the wakeboarding industry and he is excited to share some of his favorite photos in gallery form. “Growing up water skiing and wakeboarding on the Delta, as well as starting my career as a photographer in the area, I’m excited to have this exhibit showcased back home in Northern California,” says Cortese. “Austin does such a great job promoting and growing the sport, his enthusiasm is contagious, and it’s awesome to be able to work with him to put this all together.” All of Garrett’s prints in the exhibit will be up for sale on a first come first serve basis, with 50% of the proceeds going to the Bonnie J Addario Lung Cancer Foundation in San Francisco. More on Garrett:

Garrett Cortese is the Editor-at-Large / Photo Editor of Alliance Wakeboard Magazine. He is pushing 30, a Sagittarius, and was recently called mirthful; although he has no idea what any of that means. Garrett first discovered a passion for photography in middle school when his dad taught him to use an old 35mm Konica Autoreflex T. While majoring in News-Editorial Journalism at University of Colorado, Boulder and balancing photography with snow-filled days of hooky, Garrett began photographing his friends wakeboarding and submitting images to magazines. He was the first photographer to have a digital spread printed in Alliance back in 2002 and he is only semi-proud of the fact that he has never had a “film” photo published in the magazine. Orlando has been Garrett’s home base since 2005, when he was hired by Alliance, but much of the past six years have been spent living out of a suitcase. To date he has shot nearly 30 covers for the magazine, along with countless articles, interviews and other features. Lots of people have said Garrett is living the dream, and he has a hard time arguing against it. More than anything though, Garrett is grateful for the opportunities and lifelong friends afforded him through his work.
