SEOUL, South Korea (August 19, 2016) – Today, the Malibu Seoul Pro presented by Rockstar Energy kicked off its opening day of competition at Ttukseom Resort Riverside Stage for the second round of the 2016 Malibu Evolution Pro Series and fifth stop of the Wakeboard World Series (WBWS). Gorgeous weather greeted professional men and women riders as they hit the water for the first time this week behind Malibu’s all-new revolutionary M235. Located inside South Korea’s capital city, the Han River was littered with spectators who were on hand to witness the incredible riding by the best wakeboard riders in the world.

An incredibly talented lineup was on hand for the Pro Men’s Wakeboard division, hosting riders from countries around the globe as they fought for their chance to advance from the open qualifying round. Malibu’s M235 is providing the exclusive pull to all riders throughout the week and its perfectly formed wake helped Malibu team rider Sanghyun Yun (KOR) lay down an impressive run to lead the way in Heat 1. The second heat was filled with intense-action, including huge tricks from Malibu’s Toshiki Yasui (JPN) and You Hamazaki (JPN) who battled toe-to-toe for the top spot. In the end, Yasui relied on a variety of technical trick combinations to elude himself to the win.

Malibu rider Raph Derome (CAN) demonstrated his silky smooth style as he meticulously navigated the calm waters on one of Asia’s most iconic rivers, ultimately leading the way with the win in Heat 3. The M235’s massive wake allowed for Lee Woosuk (KOR) to continue his successful season of competition by nailing a strong run to finish in second. The Pro Men division is heating up as they prepare to face off during tomorrow’s quarterfinals.

“It’s incredible to be competing here in South Korea for the Malibu Seoul Pro and I’m pumped to start the week off with a heat win,” said Team Malibu Rider Raph Derome. “The culture is one of my favorite things about the country and I can’t wait to take it all in as well as take my riding to the next level while competing behind the M235.”

The Pro Men riders hit the water for the final time of the day as they were given one last opportunity to advance through the Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ). Malibu rider Parker Siegele (AUS) put in a motivated performance to take control of the LCQ and advance to the next by edging out Chad Sharpe (CAN) and Hari Go (KOR).

In the open qualifying round for the Pro Women’s Wakeboarding, Melissa Marquardt (USA) rode brilliantly by raising the bar behind the M235’s industry leading wake and grabbed the highest score in Heat 1. Just behind her, the runner-up position went to Heehyun Yun (KOR) with an impressive run. One of the best battles of the day took place in Heat 2, consisting of an all out war between multiple riders seeking to get the edge on their competition. When the final scores emerged, WWA Executive Director Corrie Wilson (USA) received the nod from the judges and sat atop the charts at the conclusion of day one.

The second day of the Malibu Seoul Pro is set to kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, August 20, beginning with Pro Men Quarterfinals and wrapping up with the Pro Women Semifinals.
