Wakesurfing, Centurion, Collegiate

Merced, CA SEPTEMBER 23, 2014; Centurion Boats announces the creation of the College Wake Surfing Tour hosted by Empire Wake. The leading watersports towboat brand will be the Wake Surfing Tour’s top sponsor. Centurion Boats pioneered competitive wake surfing when it created the World Wake Surfing Championship in 1995. Since then, competitive wake surfing has flourished at both the amateur and professional levels. Centurion also tows multiple events in the World Series of Wake Surfing, a worldwide series of qualifying events for the World Wake Surfing Championship. Centurion will now help grow wake surfing at the collegiate level.

In 2009, the College Wakeboard Series was created to help promote wakeboarding at the collegiate level. In 2012, the Collegiate Cable Tour was added. Now, in 2014 collegiate athletes will have the opportunity to compete in wake surfing. Since 2012, wake surfing has been watersport’s fastest growing discipline, a fact that has been supported by the recent flurry of wake surfing boat and board sales. Nationwide, there are 76 college wakeboarding programs and the addition of competitive wake surfing gives these teams more opportunity to attract new members.

Todd Gaughan, Vice-President of Marketing for Centurion said, “We have been involved in the development of wake surfing since the mid-90’s, so it only made sense that Centurion would be the first brand to create and support a college wake surfing program. We are very excited about this new opportunity.”

The first College Wake Surf Tour event will be held on Georgia’s Lake Lanier at the Aqualand Marina on October 4th and 5th. Other scheduled events are:

Atlanta – Lake Lanier, Aqualand Marina, Georgia – October 4th-5th
Dallas – Lake Lewisville, Little Elm Park, Texas – October 18th
Sacramento – The Watersports Farm, California – October 25th
More events in 2015 will be added – look for future announcements.

Rob Mendieta of Empire Wake said, “To Include wake surfing in the already exciting college wake scene just couldn’t be any better. It gives the riders and clubs more time on the water and a way to add new members. All disciplines of the sport are now included which will only help to make riders more well-rounded competitors. Empire Wake is very excited to be a part of it all.”

Centurion Boats will be presented in full force at each of the three fall tour stops. Centurion’s new Enzo FS44 model, the world’s best wake surfing boat, will be the official tournament towboat. Centurion’s dedication to wake surfing and creating the best competitive conditions will give the competitors the perfect wave to compete on.

All College Wake Surf Tour events are free to spectators. As a spectator, you will be able to see wakeboarding and wake surfing together making the day more exciting and action packed. To see the full schedule and learn more, check outwww.CollegeWakeboarding.com.
