MONROE, WASHINGTON (July 12, 2018) – One of largest wake surf events on the Competitive Wake Surf Association World Series kicks off this Friday in Washington State. Lake Tye, Monroe’s aquatic gem, will feature the Supreme Northwest Wake Surf Open on Friday, July 13 th through Sunday, July 15th.

2018 will mark the tenth annual NW Wake Surf Open, this event was started on Lake Sammamish and is now one of the largest and most prestigious events in the US.  The competition will span for three days, each rider will surf in two rounds, with pro finals on Sunday afternoon. The 2019 Supreme S238 will pull 86 riders per round. This event includes Junior, Amateur, Masters, Outlaw and Pro, Skim & Surf divisions for men and women.

Pro Men and Pro Women wake surf athletes are arriving from all over the United States and Canada to compete in this significant event. Supreme Boats is offering $10,000 in cash prizes for the men’s & women’s surf and skim divisions. Amateur athletes are competing for the trophy, prizes, and to qualify for the World Wakesurfing Nationals in September in Waco, Texas.

On Thursday, July 12th 11 kids from the Monroe YMCA will come out to the lake for a #PassTheHandle wake surf clinic. Pro athletes from Supreme Boats and Blusurf will coach the kids. It’s an incredible opportunity for local kids to get out on the water behind the Supreme. #PassTheHandle is a Watersports Industry Association community outreach program, held in conjunction with Discover Boating Day. Subway will provide lunch for the students.

Lake Tye park offers great viewing all the way down the east side of the lake. You can bring a lawn chair or blanket and watch from the grass area. This event is free and open to the public. There is also a great walking path around the lake, kids play area, skate park and beach at the south end of the lake. El Lago Mexican Restaurant will be open at 8am each day for breakfast and lunch, their deck offers great viewing for the event.

Wakesurf365.com will be live streaming the event to their website and into El Lago Mexican Restaurant next to the lake where spectators can get an up-close view of the action.
