MasterCraft Throwdown | 8.8.15
The MasterCraft Throwdown is a new kind of competition on the water. It’s about going big, pushing the levels and bringing progression. Think millions of viewers, a live crowd, loud music, dazzling lights, pyrotechnics, flying unicorns and pandemonium—all of it orchestrated by Gregg Godfrey, the brain behind Nitro Circus.
Be prepared to get your mind blown by world-class wakeboarding. Step up to watch a man on water skis fly further than the wingspan of a jumbo jet. And come primed for your jaw to drop off your face because you’re going to see a bunch of stuff so over the top that Godfrey won’t even tell us about it.
This is the big one. Take your vitamins and stay hydrated. Get ready to get weird. We’re taking water sports up to the next level and you don’t want to miss it.

What the fuck is Mastercraft thinking? Does anyone even care about Nitro Circus? Moto on water, X-treme Slip and Slide? Hell, even ski jumping is more legit.
Watch wakeboarding play a complete side show to all the other bullshit at this event.

I totally agree. I got excited thinking that wakeboarding would be back in the X-Games but, not excited for it to be a circus side show.

is this a JOKE?

At least with the real wake they might expose the world to some top notch wakeboarding like they have with their real skate, real snow, and real backcountry segments. There should be some park riding involved as well to show more aspects of the sport.

I mean I doubt they plan on putting a lot of attention towards the watercross and slipnslide events anyway. They probably needed some filler stuff. Any effort to put wake on my tv screen is a step in the right direction. And biggest cash purse ever means biggest tricks ever. So still…. pretty psyched.

I'm all about complaining too, but let's be real for a minute. Wakeboarding doesn't have much pull for the average viewer so a Wakeboarding only event doesn't mean much for anyone trying to promote the sport on TV. If you search Wakeboarding on youtube, the most viewed video that doesn't involve Dolphins is 7 years old with almost 3,000,000 views, but if you search slip and slide or slip and fly you get multiple multi million view videos. Obviously I would love to see a wakeboard only event get a 90 minute window of coverage on ESPN, but it's just not realistic right now. How about we wait until after the event to roast MasterCraft if it doesn't go well.
At least they're trying to promote the sport.

Cool to get wake on TV but i thought for a sec it was going to be like real snow where there are edits riders make, that would be sick. If wake is gonna be in X games it should be with a system and a skate park setup

Just a heads up in case some people aren't reading the press release correctly. There are two events taking place this summer, and both are huge for wakeboarding.
One is the MasterCraft Throwdown, which is what this video and the majority of the press release are about.
The second is Real Wake, which as you all probably know is part of X-Games. The Real Skate/Snow contests have been huge for years, and it is awesome to have wakeboarding back in the X-Games through an event like this. What better way to showcase what wakeboarding is all about to the world, as well as how diverse it is and talented those diverse riders are, than through a video contest like Real Wake in X-Games?
Stay tuned to alliancewake.com for more updates on both events.

Real Wake, I'm beyond pumped for. It's going to be amazing. I love Real Snow and hope the wake version is close to the same.
What i think is bullshit is dumbing down a wakeboard event with moto, explosions, and general Nitro Circus idiocy. Wakeboarding is strong enough to stand alone as it's own event/TV show if you put an ounce of thought into it. Red Bull Wake Open anyone?

In the early 2000s wakeboarding had ties to moto cross/shared events…those old blue torch events and what not–ride and slide, or whatever it was. So it's not so far fetched. I think it's funnier that it's tied back up to waterskiing. I guess in the end, we're all just stuntin'…
But me? I'm more into the dazzling lights, and really hope they deliver on that!

If you have never seen skifly, you will want to watch it – it defines extreme. Freddy Krueger is an awesome talent. The skill level is extreme. The danger is extreme. There is nothing goofy about it. I think it matches up very
well with wake. They did a skifly/double up comp years ago at OWC and it was a great event.

Can I submit my trick ski edit? ski fly is uber Xtreme@!@#$@

Blue Torch… Danny Collins yes! "I’m all about complaining too, but let’s be real for a minute." #nextlevelroasting

Freddy kreuger used to wakeboard also. It can be its thing, i'd just rather not watch it with wakeboarding. #hateralldayayday #EXTREME

This will be a great event for a wide range of people not just wakeboarding. We need to get wakeboarding to the mainstream and this will do it. This is mainly a wake event with some side stuff to fill time and to keep things moving and more exciting, mormal wake events have a lot of down time and get boring after a while. Also they are doing ski fly to show case special Ilmor engines and to set a genius book world record.

I do think it's kind of ironic… that all the haters on here are bitching about how this is RUINING the sport or whatever else… and because a MOTO dude, like Gregg Godfrey (not nitro circus, just Gregg) has teamed up with MasterCraft, made a competition now AFTER YEARS, it's FINALLY back in XGames? And not only one time, but 2 times! Real Wake and the ThrowDown!? And you're Pissed as hell that it's WORKING?
How can you sit there and moan about it when it's only growing your sport? The redbull rising competition was the DOPEST thing ever to come out in wakeboarding HANDS DOWN… and still didn't pull as much traction as this nationally. It's only going to allow growth in the sport. Redbull Rising, Jamboree's, Lake Ronix, all the cable parks going up/ 2.0's, and probably this very competition/ event.
for those who don't get what this is… The side antics- the blob, skim, tube launch gig. What it actually is? A wake competition, and a Ski Jump competition. WITH the biggest prize to win in the wake industry, EVER. $25K. It's all time.
Wakeboarding is back in the XGames. Thanks to MasterCraft. and not just "for a sec" – but 90 mins. PLUS then you got the RealWake. Amped.

The main issue is that boat riding always will look gay if it isn't portrayed very carefully to show the more extreme side. This video still makes it look like a SeaWorld show. Just throw some kickers on a system 2 and let them actually go big. to a crowd that is used to watching snowboarders now doing quad flips…the wake looks like a kiddy jump.
