1)State your name, age, where ya live?
Sean Cummings 37 from San Jose, CA
2)What got you into wakesurfing?
I grew up ocean surfing/skim boarding in Santa Cruz then turned to Wakeboarding when I was about 24.  I loved it until injuries kept getting the best of me.  I broke 2 ribs and was so bummed.. I couldn’t ride..  just got designated  as bow candy! 🙂  I saw some guys wake surfing and I had never seen it before?  I was super interested and went over to the boat and started asking them questions about the sport.  And even though I was injured I was able to struggle and get up. 🙂  I was hooked!!  Since that day I’ve been addicted and love every aspect of the sport.
3)You have your own brand we hear, tell us about it, whats in the works?
I started a company called Wake Shredder to help wake surfing grow.  I attended small events with hardly any sponsorship or support and figured hey why don’t I jump on it (Clothing).  So, Wake Shredder Clothing (WSC) was born. T shirts, hoodies, hats, etc. Focus of the company is to help promote the sport and riders.  I’ve been working on a Wake Shredder Tour teaching clinics and helping out at events.  Riders such as Taylor Dorey, James Walker, Caroline Villanueve, Zane Montgomery and Edric Alvarez all bring different elements to the team.  Riders that have the drive to help continue growth the sport.  Wake Shredder proudly supports them.
4)Give us and our readers a little history on your competitive back ground?
I started competing about 8 or 9 years ago and had no idea what I was getting into.  I basically just wanted to know more about this new sport that I was now addicted to.  It took me 2 seasons to hit the pro level and currently now have over 19 podiums throughout my term.  I used to take contests too seriously and psyched myself out numerous times.  I eventually learned and realized I ride for fun and most of all for me.  To compete is me to push myself against myself in order to better my own riding. Im proud to say I now ride for great companies like Centurion Boats, Inland Surfer, Liquid Image, X1 Audio, www.swapmyex.com and of course Wake Shredder
5)Whats your wave (boat), whats your board (Pro Model)?
I normally ride behind my Centurion Enzo 230 and love it.  I also came out with my own pro model board with Inland Surfer. Its a skim style board that 4’2″. The graphic on the bottom took a while to figure out with help from friends as well as my girlfriend.  It summarizes my career in wake surfing over the years as well as the pose I was originally known for and now is done worldwide.
6)At the World Wakesurfing Championships what surprised this year (2013) with the event?
Its always great to see riders each year get better and better at Worlds.  This year the crowd turnout and support was awesome. People from all over the world came to watch or compete.
7) We see you are with a very talented and high profile lady in wakesurfing. You two bring a flare to the sport as a couple. Is wakesurfing the way you met?
Ha ha ha,  yes, she is talented! We actually met through another friend a couple years ago.  Originally she would only drive the boat for me and never wanted to ride.  This was hard for me since its my passion and I just wanted to share it.  This year in early march she surprised me and wanted to try and became hooked! 🙂  Since then she has traveled to all the events with me and competed in Women’s amateur and now has 4 or 5 podiums under her belt.  Seeing her smile when she is on that podium is a great thing to see.  She is determined to get better and of course I’ll help her get there.  Together we push each other on and off the water and at events she is great with everyone including the kids and helping out in any way.  Id definitely keep your eyes open for her to do even better next season.
8) Where is your local riding spot?
My riding spot is the Delta, Stockton CA.  AKA “The Dirty D”.  Not the cleanest water.. but, I can always find good water and no crowds.
9) Do you have any life lessons from wakesurfing?
The only life lesson I have is to just remember I’m doing something that is fun and makes me smile.
10)When you ride do you have a certain song you listen to?
Oh ya! I’ve got a particular playlist when Im riding or competing.  This season the 1 song I was blaring in my ears before a comp run was by Knife Party and called Internet Friends.  Last years list which is still my back up is Skrillix’s Bangarang.  I can’t ride without music, hence , is why I have 6 Wetsounds speakers across my tower and my X1 Audio waterproof iPod holder.
11) What are some new tricks you learned in 2013?
Hard to say.  The only couple tricks I got into were the Backside drifter to back to front 180 and switch shuvs. I’d really  say this year instead of focusing on something new I really focused on being consistent, aggressive and maintain style in my runs.
12) Give us a look into 2014 with your schedule?
In 2014 expect to see me at all the events. All over the US and Canada teaching clinics and competing.  I’m already being booked up and its mind blowing considering its November.
13)Any last shout outs?
Always have to give shout outs!  First off my sponsors for their support. Centurion Boats, Inland Surfer, Liquid Image, X1 Audio, www.swapmyex.com and Wake Shredder.  Todd Gaughan and Jeff Page for there hard work and support.  My amazing girlfriends for helping me through thick and thin and helping me do what I love and sharing it with me.  All the great people and friends I’ve met and constantly meet that have ever wished me luck or supported me.  It’s the best feeling to hear supportive words from people you just met or don’t even know!   Wake Surfing is the sport it is today do to hard work from these brands.   Cann0t forget Alliance Wakesurf mag for letting me do this interview and promote this great sport. Thanks!
