Peterborough, Ontario, CA (July 23, 2017) – The Ontario wake scene has always been legendary, with a tight knit group of riders and families that make every event full of good vibes and progressive riding. The Malibu Rider Experience Canada was no exception, bringing the country’s wake heroes home to stoke the fire with Raph Derome, Oli Derome, and Chad Sharpe on hand all weekend along with Axis surfer Johnny Stieg. Hosted by Town and Country Marine, Freeride Friday kicked off behind Malibu’s 22 MXZ giving competitors an opportunity to get instruction from the pro’s getting ready for Saturday’s competition. The third stop of the Ontario Wake Series showcased some amazing talent that proved style is king in Canada. Surf Gate Sunday couldn’t have been any better with Malibu’s massive waves on beautiful Little Lake in Peterborough.

Great conditions greeted competitors on Saturday, with riders of all ages and skill levels going for it at stop three of the Ontario Wake Series. The crowd joined Dano the Mano in pumping up the riders all day long and high fives on the dock didn’t stop. Inspired by their experience on Freeride Friday, we had first-time competitors hit the water along with Ontario’s star athletes.

The Girls division was heated with some big tricks from the entire field. Emma Brearley threw every 180 in the book taking the podium in third place with a score of 77.67. In second, Callie Zellenrath’s scored 82.17, keeping her grabs on point and topping her run off with a B/S 180. Avery Spalding threw a huge H/S 180 and a T/S melon 180 to top the podium in first place with 85.67 points.

The Jr. Women had the crowd on their feet throughout the entire heat, battling it out behind the Malibu 22 MXZ. Maddy Winter went huge to take the podium in third with a score of 73.83. Samantha Jarrett took second, scoring 77.67 with a big roast beef, nose grab, and a half cab. Taking the win, superstar Mackayla Petrie landed a backroll, scarecrow, and a stylish tail grab scoring 91.67.

The Veterans division was impressive with three warriors of wake taking the water filled battlefield in an all-out send for supremacy behind the Malibu 22 MXZ. In third place, Jason Kurz threw a melon H/S 180 and a big stale fish grab scoring 70.00. Ryan Jennings had a clean nose grab 180 and stylish indy poke to take second with 78.33. Taking the win, Mike Nyenhuis scored 86.33 with a tantrum, T/S 180 and a big indy grab.

Madeline Hutchinson pulled out all the stops for the Women’s Wakesurf win, scoring 88.33 with unmatched control carving the wave with style. Maurita Wong took the podium in second with 84.17 with a big floater followed by Morgan Hutchinson in third with some big slaysh’s to score 78.33.

Chris Sinkic and Ryan Galea earned their Pro Cards taking first and second with the most impressive runs of the day. Galea scored 80.33 throwing a wrapped KGB in his run along with a T/S front and a H/S 540. Sinkic sealed the win with a T/S 720 and big batwing scoring 84.00.

The Jr. Pro Men division welcomed Ontario’s finest giving us a look into a very stylish future of the sport. In third place, Voltech Balgar scored 78.33 with an elephant, hoochie glide, and a big tantrum. Taking second, Liam Brearley landed a cab 540, cab backroll, and a sick B/S 180 scoring 80.33. Cole Silverthorn took a huge win with 87.67 points throwing a whirlybird, B/S 360, raley, and a tantrum.

Surf Gate Sunday happened to fall on international pass the handle day for the perfect opportunity to get new riders on the water behind Malibu’s massive 22 MXZ wave. The Malibu WWA Rider Experience Canada put the perfect end to an amazing season with the Ontario crew showing us what community and passion are all about.
