Top Pros from Around the World Rip a full Course of Unit Hacks at Velocity Island. Oka, Lopina and Pastura Come out on Top.

Woodland, CA (August 13th, 2017) Saturday the riders and spectators at the inaugural California Wake Park Open Presented by Malibu Boats and supported by Rockstar Energy, were treated to a full park of Unit Hacks at Velocity Island Park at the WWA Wake Park World Series event brought to you by Alliance MultiMedia. Overnight Keasen Suyderhoud and his team of local riders took the everyday course at VIP which is already littered with all of the best features from Unit Parktech and they combined them all and added other features to create four huge and challenging features that had never been ridden before.

The day brought with it an incredible number of amazing lines from all of the riders as well as a number of spectacular and painful crashes.

To compliment the new course and encourage the athletes to push the boundaries of the sport, Rockstar Energy put up an extra $500 cash for the best trick in each pro division and $1,000 for a kicker best trick event. In addition to the new features a custom “line” judging format was developed by Alex Graydon, Rob Corum and Tom Fooshee to further push the riders to create a complete line incorporating two features on each pass through the park. Then when you add a night time final with bands playing and the best wake park riders in the world; the California Wake Park Open was the most progressive wake park event to happen to date.

In the Pro Women’s Division, the California Wake Park Open had a globally diverse field with Angelika Schriber (AUS), Julia Rick (GER) Meagan Ethell (USA) and Jamie Lopina (USA) all making it through to the Semi Finals. In the nighttime final under the new incredible stadium lights at Velocity Island Park, it was Jamie Lopina who put up an incredible and consistent heat to best Julia Rick who is commonly known as the best female cable rider in the world.

Pro Women’s Division

Angelika Schriber was not to be left out of the accolades though. Ange came all the way to California to earn the Rockstar Pro Women’s Best Trick award with a huge and smooth frontside 5 tail tap on the Rockstar Energy jib can feature.

In the Pro Men’s Division, the riding was nothing short of ground breaking. Matty Muncey was charging all day and had a number of incredible lines through the park, but arguably his most memorable move was his mistake while hitting the Rockstar Energy jib can off the XL kicker. Fortunately, Matty was unfazed by this crash and continued to progress all the way through to semi-finals.

Pro Men’s Division

In the final it was the man who has been on a winning streak all season, Guenther Oka who smooth-styled his way to the top of the podium and also won the Rockstar Best Trick division for his amazing line off the kickers.

Though Blake Bishop did not make the Pro Men’s Finals, he was awarded the Rockstar Pro Men’s Best Trick for a backside 180 ollie all the way to the top stair of the Keasen feature, switch boardslide on the pipe, 270 out.

Pro Men’s Wakeskating

In Pro Men’s Wakeskating we had the two top wakeskaters in the world battling all weekend with Nick Taylor and Andrew Pastura showing the crowd and the other riders what is possible on a wakeskate. In the end, it was Andrew Pastura who took both the Pro Men’s Wakeskate division and the Rockstar Best trick awards.

In addition to amazing riding at Velocity Island Park the evening closed with an epic party on site hosted by DJ Lady Kate of the Sacramento Kings with an incredible laser system. If you missed it this year, make plans to be there in 2018 as it will be even bigger and better.

The California Wake Park Open is powered by Alliance MultiMedia, Alliance Wake Magazine and alliancewake.com: wakeboarding, wakeskating, and wakesurfing’s movement and lifestyle.
