Sean Silveira & Cory Teunissen Win in Round 2 of PWT Season in Mantua

MANTUA, Utah — June 22, 2019 — The second round of the 2019 Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour season saw the series return to the shores of the picturesque Mantua Reservoir, an hour north of Salt Lake City for an intense day of wakeboarding and wakesurfing competition, with Team Supra rider, Sean Silveira (Wakesurf) and Cory Teunissen (Wakeboard) scoring wins.

Just as in 2017, when the PWT debuted at Mantura, once again the tiny town and the wake fans of the region came out in droves to take in all the action. With clear, blue skies and the Supra SA 550 delivering its world class wakes and waves, the riders of the PWT put on a show for the crowd.

In Wakesurf, Silveira remained undefeated on the season, backing up his season-opening win in Texas with another victory for Team Supra. The native of Orlando, Fla., picked up the win in the final round over Parker Payne and John Akerman. Silveira recorded the two highest Wakesurf scores of the day in the semi-finals (83.2) and the finals (83.6), en route to extending his lead in the series standings.

Teunissen picked up the win in the Wakeboard class, edging series point leader and Team Supra rider Nic Rapa, by just over a single point (90.33-89.17) in the final round. Teunissen swept the entire event, winning Quarter Finals Heat 1, Semi Finals Heat 1 and the Finals. The native of Australia earned his highest score of the day in the Semi Finals (90.67).

The 2019 Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour continues, Saturday, July 13, with a first-time visit to Ford Lake Park in Ypsilanti, Mich., which serves the Round Three of the four-event season.

Highlights from the day:

  • Sean Silveira continues his winning streak: With another victory, Sean Silveira has won the first two stops of the year, and is well on his way to defending his overall title from last season. The Orlando native put down an epic run in the finals, which featured a 360 body varial and a 540 big spin.

  • Cory Teunissen reclaims the podium: After missing the podium completely in Katy, Texas, Teunissen came out to Mantua determined to make up for it. By stomping his signature switch toeside 1080, as well as multiple double flips, Teunissen claimed the top spot in Utah, and proved he is always a capable of winning on the PWT, no matter what the conditions.

  • Noah Flegel returns to the PWT and PWST: After missing most of last year due to a knee injury, the one athlete who competes in both wakeboarding and wakesurfing, made his return to competition in Mantua. Flegel, considered one of the best all-around athletes in the sport, competed in both wakesurfing and wakeboarding. While he didn’t make a podium in either, everybody was just happy to have him back and on the water.

  • Massi Piffaretti makes second finals in a row: After advancing all the way from the qualifying rounds to the finals in Katy, Texas, Massi Piffaretti once again proved he’s a force to be reckoned with in the contest realm as he made the six-man finals once again in Mantua. His ability to blend unique tricks with stylish grabs continues to separate his riding from the pack. Finishing fourth in Mantua, Piffaretti wowed the crowd and his fellow competitors by landing a “zero” – a wrapped frontside 360 with a full backside 360 in the same trick – essentially doing two spins to end up the way he started.

  • Nic Rapa maintains his overall points lead: While Australian ripper Nic Rapa came short of the top spot in Mantua, he impressed everybody by landing three double flips in his finals run: mute double half cab roll, mute toeside double back roll, and double indy tantrum. He fell on his final trick, which left him just shy of the top spot, but a second-place finish gives Rapa a solid lead in Wakeboard, as he looks to claim his first overall PWT title.
