Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour Opens Season at August Lakes in Katy, Texas, May 17-18

KATY, Texas (May 7, 2019)—The Supra Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour (PWT), the largest and longest-running professional wakeboarding competition circuit in the country, opens its 27th season with an inaugural event, May 17-18 at August Lakes in Katy, Texas.

August Lakes is a beautiful, 100-plus-acre, residential watersports community, providing the perfect water conditions for the Pro Tour. The wakeboarders and surfers are extremely excited to kick off the season at such an awesome venue.

“We are thrilled to bring the Super Boats Pro Wakeboard Tour to August Lakes for the first time,” said Chris Bischoff, Director of Operations, Pro Wakeboard Tour. “It’s always exciting to visit a new venue and the market certainly fits well into plans. Our athletes always embrace new venues, especially when the water conditions are this good, allowing them to ride to their full potential.”

Last year, Australian Cory Teunissen won his first overall Pro Wakeboard Tour championship, clinching the title with a victory in the final event of the season. Team Supra rider Tyler Higham was named the PWT Rookie of the Year. With the return of team Supra riders Nic Rapa and Shota Tezuka, along with Harley Clifford, the stage is set for an epic battle in Katy.

Team Supra surfer Sean Silveira was the overall Pro Wakesurf Tour titlist in 2018. Silveira’s Supra teammate Parker Payne wants to start the season off with a win and Noah Flegel, who was out with an injury last year, will definitely come out swinging at the first stop.

“We had a great 2018 season and are looking forward to carrying that momentum into this year,” said Bischoff. “The Tour will make stops at three new venues this year along with a return visit to Mantua, Utah, which was one of the best tour stops we have seen in years. Spectators, who have never seen a PWT stop, are also in for a treat, as the level of competition continues to escalate. We look forward to working with the local Supra Boats dealer in each of the four markets we will be visiting this year.”

On Friday, May 17, an Open Qualifier will be held (free spectator admission), with eight available spots on the line for the Main Event on Saturday, May 18.

The family-friendly event features the world’s top-16 professional wakeboarders and the top-6 professional wakesurfers as they compete for the top spot on the podium and season-long points in the opening round of competition of the four event series.

The Supra Boats SA550 returns as the official towboat for the 2019 tour. Known for its clean, consistent and controlled wakes, the SA550 provides a balanced ride, precise handling and the platform to push athletes to the next level.
