Wakesports Rebirth

If you’re a wake boarder in Southern California, pretty good chance you’ve been in one of the three Wakesports Unlimited stores located in San Diego, Carlsbad, and Orange.  Even if you live in a remote location, if you call yourself a wake boarder, you’ve probably read about or even participated in one of the many events put on by Wakesports. Events over the years have included: Liquid Force Slide Shows, So Cal Wakeboard Amateur Series, movie premiers, countless demos, rail jams, celebrity golf tournaments, and the list goes on and on.

If you know the Wakesports name then you probably know Tyler Irwin, the owner and founder. Over the last few months he has gone to work with his brother’s business and found his time split between his new endeavor and the shops. This is where the rebirth comes in. Josh Cantor, owner of California Watersports at the Carlsbad Lagoon, coincidently the same guy putting on all Wakesports events with Tyler, decided to step in and take Wakesports to the next level.  The two close friends, Josh and Tyler, came up with an agreement that would be in the best interest of everyone involved. Josh will now take over the reins of Wakesports as the new owner. Tyler will still be involved with the Wakesports events just like before.  Now with Josh’s complete involvement in the wakeboarding industry, the shops will flourish to a whole new level.

The people truly benefiting from all this excitement is the wakeboarding community in Southern California. Since Josh took over the Carlsbad Lagoon three years ago, the fun level for local wakeboarders has increased tremendously. He hopes to continue providing great service and product to wakeboarders, bring the pro riders to the people, and throw events that are fun for everyone. The shops will continue to be run by the General Managers, RJ Flake in Orange and Geoff Howell in San Diego, with Josh overseeing everything from the Lagoon.

The ink isn’t even dry on the deal and already things are in the works. This week at the Del Mar Boat Show a bunch of the pro riders, including Watson, Shane, Harf, and Henshaw, just to name a few, will be hitting the Wakesports rail set up.  Parks is coming out for a Spring Splash Spectacular on April 12th at the Carlsbad Lagoon. This is a great chance for everyone to meet and ride with Parks. For more info you can contact any of the shops or the Carlsbad Lagoon.

The entire wakeboarding industry is very excited about this fresh spin on Southern California. The latest 2008 products have already started flowing into the three shops. If you need anything for the upcoming season or just want to see what all the excitement is about, go into one of the three shops and check them out. If you would like to be added to the Wakesports or Carlsbad Lagoon contact list you can email Josh Cantor at: josh@carlsbadlagoon.com and he will plug you into “the know” of all the upcoming events in Southern California.
