INT Partners with Monroe YMCA to #PassTheHandle

MONROE, WA (July 23, 2015) – On Friday morning, July 24th some lucky teens will learn how to wake surf on Lake Tye! The INT League, YMCA of Monroe, and NW Wake Surf Association have partnered to #PassTheHandle for “Discover Watersports Day”!

This outreach will be done in conjunction with the 7th Annual Northwest Wake Surf Open presented by Supra Boats. The event is one of the Stops on the Wake Surf World Series this year. Pro and amateur athletes are traveling from all over the United States to participant in the competition on Saturday and Sunday held on Lake Tye. The event is free and open to the public to watch this weekend on the beach and from the Dreadnaught Brewing Beer Garden sponsored by the Monroe Chamber of Commerce.

“Bringing families and communities together on the water is what we do.” says INT Founder Rick Stocks, “our partnership with the Watersports Industry Association, the NW Wake Surf Association and the YMCA is helping to give more kids the opportunity to get out behind a boat.”

The #PassTheHandle event is free to the YMCA kids, and they will be instructed by some of the best wake surf athletes in the country behind Supra Boats.

About #PassTheHandle

With a mission to share the passion for the activity of towed water sports worldwide, the second annual #PassTheHandle day will take place July 26, 2015.

Founded by wakeboarding and water ski legend, Zane Schwenk, this day encourages people to get out on the water and teach new people how to ride, ski, surf or anything else to experience the exhilarating feeling of being towed across the water. “The thrill of standing on the water is one of my first memories, and we want to pass that life-changing experience on to those who’ve never had the opportunity,” Schwenk said. “With the help of Shaun Murray, we started brainstorming about how we can get more people on the water to help grow the sport. And the help of WSIA, Pass The Handle was born. Now, we have the chance to responsibly teach and ensure the water sports lifestyle we love stays strong and present for the future generations to come.”

Backed by the WSIA and the entire industry, #PassTheHandle day will grow the participant levels in towed watersports by teaching people the right way to have fun and be safe on the water. After a successful launch in 2014, Schwenk is also appreciative of the year-round support of the #PassTheHandle initiative. On July 26 people all over the world will #PassTheHandle their pictures and experiences through social media outlets.
