.) State your name, age, and passions? I am Emily Agate, I’m 24 years old, and I run my own daycare in Fernie BC Canada. I look after 8 children between 18months and 6 years old 5 days a week. Before finding wakesurfing I never really understood what a true passion was, I had always enjoyed many things, but never was obsessed like I am with wakesurfing.

.) How long have you been riding and what got you into wakesurfing? I went wakesurfing a couple times at the end of the summer in 2011 and instantly LOVED it. Unfortunately our winter is very long so I had to wait 9 months until I could try it again. In June of 2012 I bought my own board and went again for my birthday. I tried to go as much as possible with friends in July and would just carve around and board slide. August 2012 Caro Villeneuve hosted a competition that was apart of the World Series of Wakesurfing on my local lake. My friends convinced me to register so I booked a lesson with Caro the week before the competition to learn some basic tricks. I ended up managing a win in the amateur division which qualified me for WORLDS. As it worked out I actually had work off that week of the competitions that I qualified for at Parker in 2012. So I registered and went to Vegas and then rolled over to Parker Arizona to compete for the main event I qualified at in Caro Villeneuve. I ended up surfing to second place in the women’s amateur surf style division!  I never dreamed in my life that my life would take this direction. I feel truly blessed with my success and experiences. I am living my dream life! I hope more women just get out on the water and give it a go. You can do anything you set your mind to and if you want something go out there and get it!

.) Are you involved in any other sports besides wakesurfing? I live in a ski town surrounded by mountains. I love to mountain bike and snowboard, as well I teach TRX training at my local gym.

.) Living where you do how does it play a role in your ride time? Being originally from the South East of England and now living in BC Canada in Fernie our season is very short. Not much ride time makes me become very creative with how I train. We were lucky with the weather this year and I was able to ride May – Sep. yet our short season makes it hard to progress as fast as I would like. So I do a lot of dry land training and try my best to get away and wakesurf at least once a month through our long winter.

.) You were at the World Series Wakesurfing Finals at Lake Las Vegas. What was it that really impressed you, or did you feel there is room for improvement? I feel there is not enough women within the competing circuit yet with women’s surf style. I really want to push the sport and inspire more girls to get out there and ride and learn tricks. I love coaching others so I am doing my part to get others riding and I love it when I let them try a real custom surf style wakesurf board. It is amazing the difference a good board and wave can make to your riding! Right now I feel women are not at the same competitive level as the men and I am determined to change this!

.) We are sure the men of the world in wakesurfing would like to know this question. 🙂 Are you single, married, or dating? I am a single lady!

.) Did you work on any special tricks to drop at the finals during Worlds? I was working on a lot things! But there never seems to be enough time to practice at the event and warm up. I had nothing special this year, but next season I plan to have something special to show off.

.) Have you had any hardships, injury’s, or other daunting life challenges that wakesurfing has been the inspiration? Wakesurfing has been nothing but a positive in my life! It has enabled me to travel around the US to meet with many amazing people, inspire others, and has brought me closer with my Mum and my Dad. 🙂

.) What direction would you like to see women’s wakesurfing go? I would love to see more women out behind a boat giving it a go and blasting massive air off the wave! Wakesurfing is still a very unknown sport and is gaining momentum. I cannot wait to experience the day where I do not have to explain the sport to 90% of the people I meet.

.) Who supports you and who do you want to throw a shout out with!? I would like to thank these awesome brands for the support I receive..  SoulCraft Boarding, Agenda, Hyper Surf Co., H2o School, Boardstiff Fernie/Rip Curl
