Sam Light sent over this little video to me today. Its pretty insane even if your not a kiteboarder per say. The question I have is could a Kite be another type of pull one day? Kiteboarding is adapting to a more wake style everyday it seems. The guys are hitting rails, hitting cables and looking a lot better. You tell us? Is a Kite the next pull to add to Boat, Jetski, Cable, Winch?

Kiteboarding is kiteboarding. I do not think it will be another type of “pull”. Unless I start seeing some kiteboarders hit the wakes from wakeboats and hit rails, all while being connected to the kite, then yes it could be another “pull”. As of now, NO!

And if you think about it, it would be damn near impossible to kite at a cable park

Kiteboarder’s are hitting rails with just kites though.

@Jim: your being pretty pedantic there!!! cable/winch riders dont use the wake of a wakeboat either!!

im a kitesurfer and a wakeboarder. thats exactly how i see my kite; my style (a work in progress) is wakestyle, and the only difference is that my pull isnt a boat/cable/winch, its a kite in the sky!! everything else is the exact same…hitting rails, aerial tricks etc

Kiteboarders and Cable riders should just keep their little dangly acrobatics to themselves… if your not pulled by gas your just not legit

Yeah its deff another form of wakeboarding. More power to ya. I dig the whole non Gass. Cables, system 2.0, Kites. It’s all rad.

Awesome video- filmed and edited beautifully! I’ve seen a park setup with kiters hitting rails and kickers before. I definitely think it’s legit…

Adding it to contests would be hard because you have to have wind. Wind is undesirable during the other disciplines… So I don’t know how you would put it in. You would have to get lucky and get a windy day followed by a non-windy day with nice weather. It’s possible, just not really that practical in my opinion

Riding during lightning storms is not cool. Riding at night seems dangerous as well. Lets put some more thought into the message were sending the kids posting videos like these. Thanks, be smart.

sometimes i dont like the look of kiteboarding because it looks too forced or that they are just hanging from a bar but didnt get that vibe in this video it was sick. these guys have lots of style! and the edit was dope!!!

  13. Chase Giese Says:

safety first there was not one bolt of lightning while they were riding start thinking before you say things…… this is 100 percent just a different pull this is more like cable wake boarding than cable is to boat the only thing cable and boat have alike is the board this sport has similar dynamics to cable riding these guys kill it

@Jim do a bit of research before you make claims like that, there is a whole other scene to kiting other than the dangley shit you have seen. Check out the triple s , Ro-sham throw down, or wind no wind event to name a few of the big ones. If you want to see the real side of kite boarding check some of the videos on http://www.kitescoop.com

Haha…I am sorry guys. I have to admit that the comments I made were designed to spark controversy over the issue. I wanted to get everyone’s ideas about kiting. I love kiting and I do think it is another type of pull. Best of all, the pull runs on wind power. I hope I did not get anyone to angry. wops

I know both of these guys and arron (redbull) is a 5X whorl champion, both sam and arron have been pushing the sport for years towards a more wake style type of riding.. they have the kite so low that is practically like riding a cable anyway! i do both.. cable, boat, winch, kite… all i say is have fun doing what you do and be open to new ways of expressing the sport!

Yo Steve check out this http://vimeo.com/32413585. Wake Cable and Kite all in one event. I don’t care if some folks don’t think a kite is legit cuz when it’s windy and wake sucks I’m shredding kite.

  19. peligroso Says:

it is another pull . you juist have to learn to sail before making it look good that is why not everybody can make it to the next level. http://youtu.be/LjliKeA4gn0

  20. 3rdCoast Says:

There are several different disciplines in kiting. But wake-style is to kiteboarding as snowboard style is to wakeboarding. If you are lucky enough to do both, kite when it’s windy, ride the boat when it’s calm. You’ll always have something to do.

using the shorebreak as the “wake” + kicker and slider. Kiting at its best

What happens when we run out of non-renewable resources?

The “water-board” industry switches to kiting….
